In 1978 Mike and Ruth Mann purchased a 20 acre prune orchard at the south end of Santa Clara Valley east of Gilroy with the intention of raising their children in the country and grow a few premium wine grapes. The first wine grapes were planted in 1982 with the Mann's working full time in Silicon Valley and spending most weekends and holidays working the vineyard along with a stubborn 1915 Caterpillar tractor!
By 1994 the first Merlot block was harvested at Mannstand Vineyards under the careful handling of the Mann family. They learned about cane positioning, leaf pull, fruit thinning and hand harvested, always seeking the best way to produce the best grapes. Their customers included local wineries and home winemakers who were winning gold medals at major competitions with Mannstand Vineyard grapes. Thus, in 1996 the Mann family took the next step and produced their first wine.
Now the Mann family offers you the finest wines from the finest grapes.
